Food Safety (1.3 CEU) ~ ACT 48 Approved

Obtain knowledge that fulfills the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture requirements of the Food Employee Certification Act in the categories of food service, food retail, and bakery. The course is offered in collaboration with local Penn State Extension offices. Participants will be able to: understand the sanitation challenge; develop awareness of the flow of food through an operation; learn the importance of clean, sanitary facilities and equipment and develop competency in managing sanitation.

Telecommuntications Technologies certification (11.5 CEU's)

Fiber optic cabling is being used across Pennsylvania and the United States in various capacities. Complete the three courses listed below and earn you industry-recognized C-Tech Telecommunications Technologies Certification along with a Penn State Continuing Education Certificate. Approved for TAA/WIA

Course Sequence:
Introduction to Telecommunications and Green Technology Systems - Learn the basics and history of data, voice, and video in this overview of telecommunications. Gain an under standing of how today's communications systems work by using the Telecommunications Activity Board.
Challenging activities provide the foundations of knowledge for further skill development. Students become familiar with green technologies, energy-saving applications, and the value of renewable resources. Learn about the largest energy-consuming systems in homes and businesses and how it is possible to save energy and money while still offering a high level of user comfort.

Introduction to Network Cabling: Copper-Based Systems - Construct, test, and troubleshoot copper-based cabling systems that are the basis of today's networking, cable television, and satellite communications systems. Become familiar with cabling types, uses, and standardized placement methods for both commercial and residential environments. Industry standard termina-
tion and testing procedures, as well as troublshooting methods for copper-based cabling systems, are the cornerstones of this course. Upon competition, you will be certified as a Level I technician in the copper cabl ling field.

Introduction to Network Cabling: Fiber Optic Based Systems - Become familiar with and learn the basics of light, light transmission, and light reception using ultra-pure glass fibers. Learn the basics of cable termination, testing, and troubleshooting to prepare for a career in either the
commercial or residential environment. Emphasis is on terminating standards-recognized SC and ST connec tors and completing a mechanical splice. Safety precautions are stressed. Additional topics include customer service, communication skills, and career pathways. Upon Completetion, you will be certified as a Level I technician in the fiber optics field.

Hands-on training in the three courses includes CAT5E 4-pair cabling, RJ45 connections, coax connections, 66 block and 110 block connections, and fiber optic ST and SC connections. Participants earn an industry-recognized certificate upon completion of all three courses; learn basics of network cabling in both copper-based systems and fiber optic based systems; receive hands-on training; upon completion, receive a field tool kit. Who should Attend: Persons wanting certification in one of the fastest growing high-demand occupations in the country (class size limited to 10).

Introduction to Lean Manufacturing: Lean 101 (0.8 CEU)

Contribute to your bottom line! Learn the principles of lean manufacturing and how to apply them. During simulation exercises, as a member of the production team, you will apply lean concepts such as standardized work, visual signals, batch-size reduction, pull systems, and more. Experience firsthand how lean improves quality, reduces cycle time, improves delivery performance, reduces work-in progress (WIP), and enables companies to show a profit. Overview of Financial Management (1.6 CEU's)

This program is an overview of the fundamentals of finance and accounting for nonfinancial managers. The overriding goal of the program is to present a number of "nuts and bolts" financial concepts, providing managers with useful information, including basic accounting principles, budgeting, and fundamental financial analysis tools. Participants can learn the language of finance, understand what accounting principles are generally accepted, interpret an organization's financial statements and annual report, review budgeting tools, calculate a break-even scenario and evaluate returns on investment. Who should attend: Managers in every functional area of responsibility who need to understand and speak the "numbers side" of business.

In-Demand Career Training at Penn State DuBois - Penn State Continuing Education is pleased to offer training for in-demand careers.
